from the mind of critic-2/6/19

From the mind of critic:     “If the definition of insanity is doing something over and over again while expecting different results, but the line between genius and insane is akin to the width of a human hair, how do we know when we’ve gone too far? If our determination outweighs our talent, or even our intelligence, but something within us keeps pushing us forward, how do we know when to keep following our heart, when countless people and objects are pulling us in the opposite direction? Do we always follow our heart even if our brain is advising us otherwise, or are there times when we tread cautiously because although we get bits and pieces of heart and mind symbiosis, nothing is clear until we turn on our light? Sometimes we can just tell something is the right thing to do, we don’t know where it comes from, but something deep within us is screaming for action. Other times we can tell we’re getting pushed or pulled, but go with it because we either don’t know or don’t care about where we’re going, as long as it ain’t here. When we feel very strongly about an issue or about the right solution to a problem, we can keep doing the same task, thinking this time is going to be different. This time, as opposed to the last 1000 times, is going to be different. Once we realize following our heart is always the way to go, but utilizing our mind can focus our progress in the right direction, we’ll see expecting different results is only insane, if we believe we’ll always get the same answers from the same questions. Winning hearts and minds, starts with our own. Doing the right thing, involves uncomfortable work toward a just future. Determination isn’t all we need, that is spelled REAL LOVE. Explaining the unexplainable, takes a strong heart, and a loving mind.” ?

from the mind of critic-2/5/19

From the mind of critic:    “If we don’t like the reflection looking back at us in the mirror, what can we do to improve our opinion? How do we start liking ourselves, if we don’t know how or don’t remember? We start with gratitude for what we have, self-kindness for who we are, and conscious patience for where we want to go and what we want to accomplish, then rinse and repeat. We keep repeating this process until it’s not something strange that we go out of our way to do, but simply something we don’t even think about, call it unconscious consciousness. We’ll see once we get to that point, we may not be perfect human beings who possess everything we want with no regrets, but more than likely we’ll like the person staring back at us in the mirror. We love ourselves by loving each aspect, specifically so we can show others how to do the same.” ?

from the mind of critic-2/4/19

From the mind of critic:      “If things don’t go right for us, do we throw up our hands and say fuck it? Do we see our failure or perceived failure as so definitive, that we see no point in fighting back or ever trying again? Does this perceived negative event only trend away from the positive spectrum, because all we see is the same moment playing over and over in our head like a broken record? Do we not see the moments that led to our supposed failure, let alone all the moments that’ll come after, because we think this moment is the end all be all, neglecting what Steve Perry said about the big wheel in the sky that keeps on turning? Do we not throw up our hands, but like the cliché says, we turn our frown upside down through knowledge gain? Do these lessons always push us in the right direction, or will they only trend that way if we use our filtered, open to possibilities character, and put one foot in front of the other in steady cadence into, and then through the unknown? We all have bad times, upsetting instances when nothing goes our way no matter how much work we put in, or pain we endure. These are times that will test the very core of who we are, and whether we have the stamina and courage to keep trudging on. That stamina doesn’t come from being the smartest or the strongest, but from the love, peace and understanding we share with our neighbors. Our tank fills with this positive energy, then when we venture into the wider world it makes everything better and brighter. However, not everything will be sunshine and roses, adversity, hardships and failure will happen sometimes no matter what we do. This is when we have to keep love on the forefront of our minds. It’ll never afford us the opportunity to delete negativity, but it’ll greatly shorten our turnaround time. Shit might happen, but so does beauty. We don’t lose hope, when we don’t lose our soul. If possession is 9/10ths of the law, so is perception. Failure is normal, giving up isn’t. Spreading love allows us to spread hope, starting with ourselves.” ?

from the mind of critic-2/3/19

From the mind of critic:     “If competition is defined as the opposite of peace of mind, does it inherently pit us against each other? Does it teach kids from a young age, that the only way to get ahead is to be better than the person next to us, and if we aren’t constantly moving up the ladder, we’re sliding down? Does it teach kids they’re never good enough, even if they strive for more? Is laziness, inaction and indifference linked with not striving, because not being satisfied with who we are, where we are and what we are makes us curl up and make a permanent home in our cocoon, never looking to improve? Does this make peace of mind sound like fru fru language, which sadly attempts to obscure stagnation, or does peace of mind not cause inaction, but builds a foundation of gratitude for where we’ve been and where we are, because it’s the motivational fuel to get us where we’re going? Competition isn’t bad, and neither is peace of mind. It’s only when they’re used as an excuse to flip our nose up at somebody, that we become a mutated, festering sore of our former self; kind of like fundamentalists clinging to any religion they can get their hands on, as an excuse to commit violent acts they were going to commit anyway. But I digress. Today is the Super Bowl, the biggest, most watched spectacle in all of sports. Competition is on the mind of all of us. Just like everything has a good and bad side, competition can teach kids they can be better than previously thought, and peace of mind can teach kids they can be happy with exactly who they are. Maybe that’s it, we just need to combine the two. Call it competitive peace of mind, no that doesn’t sound right. Maybe we just teach kids that when they’re happy with who they are, and grateful for what they have, it gives them the motivation to strive for more. This is because they’ve seen, understand, and are grateful for how far they’ve come; making them see how much better they’ve gotten, and how much better they can get, specifically because they’re grateful for their journey, not their destination. Competition can make us step on each other’s necks, or it can make us love each other because we realize we’re all competing. Peace of mind only causes inaction, if it’s based on ignorance. Gratitude and striving are symbiotic, because we couldn’t have one without the other. Cruel kids only become cruel adults, when competition squashes gratitude because of low self-esteem. We all get ahead when we all get ahead doesn’t mean we’re all winners, just that we helped each other along the way.” ?

from the mind of critic: 2/2/19

From the mind of critic:
“If we’ve elected leaders who espouse racial equality, do honest work to bring communities together, and inject as much inclusiveness into their staff and/or administration as possible to serve as an example of harmony, while pictures, videos, and first person testimonials of racist acts and portrayals surface, does all that good work get thrown out the window? Are resignations demanded from all sides of the aisle, only demanded from the official’s own party to save face for supporting them, or the opposition party jumping on the accusatory bandwagon without looking at the evidence, because they see blood in the water? Is there a statute of limitations on racist acts, or is it like murder, no matter how long it takes to bring somebody to justice, or mountains of evidence and witness statements which require documenting, they will be uncovered for not only the heinous act or crime they committed, but for the double life they’ve lived for so long? Racism, is racism, is racism, period. If you dressed up in Nazi uniforms, KKK robes, black face, or even confederate generals notorious for their brutal violence against anybody who wasn’t a white male protestant, you’re a racist. No matter how long ago it was, and what supposed personal reforms have been enacted, you should never be elected to office. If you were lucky enough to squirm your way through the cracks, you should resign immediately. There are no excuses that can be made for you to hold your elected job, because the vast majority of the population is going to look at their neighbors with contempt and suspicion, but also themselves, questioning everything they thought they knew about being a good person. We don’t need liars and false prophets, we need truth tellers from the salt of the earth. A wolf in sheep’s clothing, is worse than if the actual wolf tapped you on the shoulder and said, hello. We can’t evolve past problems of the past, until we recognize the full permeation of their evilness. We all did things in the past we’re not proud of, but if we only admit our deeds after being caught, despite years of perfecting our new persona, then we aren’t actually sorry, we’re just sorry people were offended.”?

from the mind of critic-2/1/19

From the mind of critic:   “When the light breaks through the darkness, do we get scared of the exquisite colors displayed? Does the vibrancy shock us with its sudden arrival, making us believe it’ll be gone just as quick? Have we lived with darkness for so long, while simultaneously asking for light, we believe it must be a hoax? Why would it suddenly show up? Is it not the light itself we fear, but living with the light, because it flips our world with monumental change? Are we not afraid of light, because although it only stays for a short time, we know the more we recognize it for what it is (just a beautiful moment among many), the more often it shows up? Darkness can be all encompassing by surrounding us in its negativity, while making us feel comfortable because it’s always there and we can count on it. This is when our rut becomes chiseled, so when light does poke through, we negate it because we’re not used to its positive effects. We believe its temporary status is simply a tease, whose soul lifting effects must be meant for somebody else. However, the same could be said for the reverse. Darkness can also be seen as not real because of its periodic nature. The issue comes when we’re wrapped in light and think darkness can’t affect us. This is when darkness builds its power for its major attack. Once we realize we’re never all light or dark, or that not all light is good and all dark is bad, we’ll see that definitions don’t really matter, and as long as we treat each other like we’d like to be treated, don’t piss in the sandbox, and remember to share, we’ll probably be okay. We need not fear the light or the dark, only when we refuse to see. Change can be hard, but becomes softer when we’re open to its positive, and closed to its negative. Light may only poke through for a second, but that second lasts an eternity when we inhale its beautiful significance. Being comfortable doesn’t make us fearless, it makes us ignorant if we reuse to stand up.”:)

from the mind of critic: 1/30/19

From the Mind of Critic:
“If death is simply the finality of life, therefore part and parcel of the process itself, where does the fear of it come from? Does it appear when we realize we won’t see another sunset, won’t laugh again with friends, and will lose our love and support system? Does it appear when we look at our bucket list, and spot so many places and events we didn’t experience, or even remembered to list it in the first place? Does it appear when we realize everything is coming to an end, like the dark at the end of a light tunnel? Do we not fear death not because we’re unafraid of the end, but because we live everyday like it’s our last, and fill it with as much soul filling activity as possible, that way if it did end, we’d have zero regrets? Death can be a scary thing, the fact that our loved ones can leave us anytime and vice versa, can bring a dark cloud which encapsulates our forward motion. This heaviness can weigh us down, influencing our every thought and action, until we’ve fully ceded control. The keyword being can, because it doesn’t have to. Death is simply a part of life, part of the positive negative balance. We must have an end specifically to have a beginning, and vice versa. So, how do we delete this fear? I don’t know we ever fully can. However, we can lessen its power and influence on our daily lives, by relegating it to crazy street preacher status. We enact this lessening process by living each day, I mean really living. Not necessarily extreme sports, although that could certainly work for some. I mean from the moment we wake up, we need to breathe in the beauty of the universe, and feel nothing but gratitude. We must see how people matter to us because they’re human, and so are we. We must take in this good energy, and not hold onto it, but expel it back out; not just through kind and charitable works, but through listening to the soul of others. Listen, the fear of death greatly increases along with our increase of regret, which greatly decreases the more human we are to each other. Death is scary, but so is life lived unconsciously. Regret is overcome, by listening to our heart. Our earthly time is limited, living life purposefully, makes time move slower. If we view death as simply a new beginning, we won’t see it as a scary end.”

From the mind of critic:
“If we realize we can’t know where we’re going, until we know where we’ve been, how do we figure out where we are? Do we devise an equation, involving as many variables as possible? Do we sit back, overwhelmed by the sheer fact that understanding where we’ve been, and internalizing it so it gives us a clue where we’re going is hard enough introspective work, without then having to take that answer that’ll never be black and white, and hammering out exactly where we stand? Do we feel these internal questions are only asked by the well off, people who have enough time to ponder, because they aren’t being held neck deep in survival mode by generations of an ever-widening wealth gap? Do we ask where we’ve been, are and where we’re going, but don’t get hung up on the answers, because after much life experience, we know those answers are constantly changing, evolving and mutating, so trying to decipher “the answer” is a fool’s errand? Trying to figure out the world is hard enough, without knowing ourselves. Asking ourselves those deep and sometimes dark questions, can be the most uncomfortable thing we’ve ever endured. Sometimes this leads to figuring out the world, because working on issues outside of ourselves, allows us to be passionate, without being held prisoner in our own minds. These chains become tighter, rustier and heavier the longer we go without dealing with what’s holding us back. Once we realize that learning, knowing then experiencing who we are might change over time, but being conscious of it along the way, gives us the best chance of figuring out our past and our future, we’ll see that we may never receive the answers we’re looking for, but utilizing effort and conscious thought will provide a path forward. Understanding history, helps us not ignore the future. Ignoring our present, makes our past and future irrelevant. Grounding ourselves, allows us to strategically survive our own mind. Answers might not ever be clear, but become less foggy when we realize it really is all about the journey.”
