from the mind of critic-4/7/18

From the mind of critic: “Do steps get harder to climb as we get older, because our bodies are so worn out? Do our bodies not work as well after a lifetime of challeneges, because we’re simply too tired? Do our minds lack the ability to learn new paths, after years of chisleing in the ones we currently travel? Whether old dogs can learn new tricks, or new dogs can learn old tricks depends solely on the person. When we’re young we’re eager to fly into the unknown, knowing we’re passionate enough to overcome any challenge. When we’re older we’re as cautious as we are cynical, and don’t bomb into the unknown with wreckless abandon. Ofcourse nothing in life is guaranteed, and generalizations are only true if we put our faith in them. Once we realize, “we’re only as old as we feel” can refer to our mind as well as our body, we’ll see we might not have control over how and when our body breaks down, but we do over our mind. Old people railing against young people protesting, are simply repeating personal experience. Steps don’t get harder to climb, our will to climb them does. New paths are only scary, if we’re unwilling to leave our current one. Keeping our muscles flexible is important as we age, none more so than our mind.” 🙂

From the mind of critic: “If there’s more crime than there used to be, has society changed, or just how statistics are defined? Have economics gotten so bad, with less jobs and less opportunity for upward mobility, that people commit crime to survive? Have we changed the definitions of crimes, so as to create the illusion it’s higher or lower? Is there really more or less crime, or is there the same amount there has always been, it’s just the acts that have evolved? Violent crime numbers go up and down, as do other felonies and misdemeanors. Deciphering whether these swings happen because of natural or human factors, we may never know. Once we realize that asking critical questions doesn’t tear down society, just the facade erected to mimic society, we’ll see descriptions for how good or bad things are as a window into humanity, and how willing we are to be challenged. Questioning the status quo, is the first step in real change. Crime staistics can be scary, but only if they reflect a reality we put our faith in. Definitions evolve with society, unless understanding remains stagnant. If we want to lower crime, we must lower what causes one to commit crime. Answering questions, requires discovering motivation.” 🙂

From the mind of critic: “If closed minds come with open mouths, and open minds come with closed mouths, do they ever switch? Do closed minds ever shut up about backwards ideals and generalizations, remembering to bite their tongue? Do open minds ever espouse forward and evolutionary thinking, remembering to pass on the knowledge they’ve gained? Is it a balance between the two, where our minds are opening and closing along with our mouths, as we gain life experience and shed and strengthen biases? None of us are perfect, and none of us are dumb. We are simply at different levels of understanding and consciousness, as we journey at different stages. We have the right to say what we think, many problems continously arise because so many aren’t truthful with their speech. Ofcourse if we have the right to say what we think, so does someboyd else, and we may not always agree. This is called conversation, it’s how humans solve problems. Once we realize talking and sharing ideas humanely and thoughtfully, instead of hatefully and ingnorantly is how we evolve, we’ll see the same issues keep repeating themselves, unless we can admit we aren’t always right. If we can’t admit our own close mindedness, we can’t expect somebody else to. Mouths and minds will stay closed, if we don’t believe things will ever get better. Forward thinking is only subjective, if we look back. We shed biases, by allowing ourselves to be proven wrong. Ignorance is the absence of knowledge.” 🙂

From the mind of critic: “If the most boring thing in life is watching grass grow, is it because we’re not forcing it to grow? Do we feel empty if we haven’t seeded, weeded and fertilized Do we feel empy if we have seeded, weeded and fertilized, because we have put the work in, and now the grass has to grow by itself? Are we upset we can’t force the grass to grow, or are we uspet because the grass isn’t guaranteed to grow, no matter how much work we put in, Letting go of outcomes might be the hardest thig we’ll ever do, but it beats the broedom of inaction. The uselessness springing from this boredom, makes us put less work in, because we think what’s the point. Once we realize that putting in work is all we can do, because we have to let the process do its work, we’ll see boredom only births from inaction, when we don’t allow the work we’ve done, to work for us. Grass will only grow, if we let it grow. Being accountable, means knowing complete control is an illusion. Forcing us to act, breeds inaction.” 🙂

From the mind of critic:              “If there is no gain without pain, is there loss without love? If we can’t achieve success without stumbling along the way, can we also fail without succeeding along the way? To truly understand and live a definition, do we need to be familiar with its opposite? There are many ways to describe no pain no gain, the concept itself being the important thing, not how we describe its attributes. We can’t truly succeed, without knowing what it means to fail. We also can’t truly fail, without knowing what it means to succeed. Once we realize fear of the unknown is the enemy of balance, we’ll see perceptions are its best friend. Gain without pain, is void of authenticity. Love without loss, is void of reality. Balance, is what gives life meaning. If beauty is in the eye of the beholder, so is success.” 🙂

From the mind of critic: “If advice is truly meant to help us, because the giver truly want us to succeed, do we tune out the second we feel lectured at? Do the hurled assumptions at first glean respect, because we’ve known the person so long? Does it become projection, when the advice drones on and on, repeating itself repeatedly? If we’re accused of not trying to better our situation at all, when we know we are, do we begin to resent the advice giver? Friends exist on many differemt levels, stay in our lives for varying amounts of time and serve a plethora of purposes? When has our best interest at heart,we tend to respect and listen to their words. However, if their tone becomes condescending, because we’ve spent all our time doing this, when they say we should really be doing that over there, we begin thinking we’re wrong. Problems continue arising we have been doing that stuff, but our respected friends advice reveals itself for the emptiness it contains, because they want us to do what works for them, instead of what works for us. Once we realize that following our heart by listening to our soul is all that matters, we’ll see that if somebody really had our best interest at heart, they’d not only listen but hear us, instead of only their own words. Friends start growing apart when they feel judged, because true friends are friends, specifically because they dont feel judged. If making money is our only goal, we’ll never be happy. If we put off what we want to do until we’re filthy rich, we’ll forget what we wanted because we left our soul behind

From the mind of critic: “If our ladder to success is hard to climb, do we grab a shorter one? Are the amount of steps intimidating, making us believe fewer steps will more motivating? Do we get scared we’ll be stuck halfway up, because our legs are to weak to make it the distance? Is our climbing ability linked to our self-esteem, or experience? Is the top of our ladder illusory? Only looking at the long game, can make all the million steps in acheiving our goals seem out of our wheelhouse. This can make smaller goals easier to handle. Once we realize these smaller goals are meant to give us confidence to acheive other smaller goals, the original ones led to, we’ll see focusing on smaller goals, will get us to our bigger goals, because we’re letting go of their outcomes. Tall ladders can be hard to climb, but become easier when we realize they’re comrpised of many shorter ones. The only way to complete many steps, is by completing the first. Our ladder, is only as big as our perceptions. We only get stuck halfway up our ladder, if we don’t believe in ourselves. We can climb any ladder, as long as we’re wiling to evolve alongside.” 🙂

From the mind of critic: “If the fog is so thick we can barely see, do we adjust the speed of our steps forward? Do we move faster, because the wind resistance cuts through the fog? Do we move slower, because letting our eyes adjust allows us to cut through the fog? Do we take the fog on a case by case basis, because sometimes it appears thick or thin, but is really the opposite? Whether the fog of stereotypes, institutionalized racism and sexism, 24-7 news, coporate and government overreach, peer pressure, self-sabotage or generational and familial attitudes, it can all obscure a path forward. Which can make it difficult to formulate a strategy that’s in our best interest. Once we realize fog is actually noise meant to disrupt our journey, coming from outside and from within, we’ll see we can turn down the noise simply by critically thinking how we can take care of ourselves, specifically so we can take care of others. Charting a path through the fog is only scary, if we don’t believe in ourselves. The fog in front of us, is only as thick as we allow it to get. We may not be able to discard all distractions and roadblocks, but we can change our reactions to them. Strategy to cut through the fog will work, as long as we’re willing to make adjustments on the ground. When we lose faith in the power of fog, it reveals itself as an illusion.” 🙂

From the mind of critic: “If we put extreme physical effort into fighting, clawing and inching our way to success, do we believe others need to have conditions just as hard for their success to be authentic? Do we believe othgers who try to make their path to success easier, are just looking for a handout? Do we believe anybody who wants something easy, doesn’t want to try? Is hardwork required for everything, or does smart work prove more useful? Struggling through life is never fun, we could all attest to that. Fighting and clawing for every stinking thing we have, is just as exhausting physically, as it is mentally. We must ask ourselves were we fighting and clawing because we wanted to, or would we have taken an easier path if it was available? Once we realize that if we want our life to be easier, that others do too, we’ll see anger directed toward others for making their lives easier, is really anger at ourselves for not making our lives easier. Hardwork doesn’t guarantee success, but smart work does improve our odds. None of us purposely want to struggle, unless we’re a sadist. If we want to make life better for the next generation, we start by making life better now. Finding success is a universal want, so is an easy path to get there. Making life hard for somebody else, only makes our life harder. Freedom isn’t free of work, it’s free of un-needed hardwork.” 🙂
