From the mind of critic: “If hate and racism are caused by ignorance, which is not caring about one’s own lack of knowledge, how do we get those of us to realize that we might not know everything? How do we stop this cycle of ignorance, to apathy, to complacency, to hate and back to ignorance? How do we get those of us to realize, that we might not be the perfect human specimen we make ourselves out to be? You’d think it wouldn’t be hard in the 21st century to say nazis, white nationalists, white supremacists, neo nazis, peckerwoods or any other hate group that preaches violence and/or supremacy over the “other”, you’d think it wouldn’t be hard to say that they’re not only detrimental, but are an extremely dark and violent effort to destroy what America is suppossed to be about. Since we’re absolutely in that stage making it hard to speak up, we must recognize we are that stage, and not beat around the bush. To recognize our current predicament, we have to talk open and honestly. Once we’re used to talking open and honestly, not tomention humanely and peacefully, we’ll see our ignorance float away. This dissappearing act happens because we’ll see that the people we’ve been racist and hateful to, are just like us with the same struggles. Once poor whites, blacks, hispanics, asians and native americans see that they’re going through the same hardships, they will unite. Isn’t unification what we’re looking for, recognizing we’re different and the same, at the same time? Isn’t that how we beat back hate and ignorance?” 🙂
