From the mind of critic: “If democracy is the worst form of government but the best one out there, have we truly lived under democracy to it’s fullest extent? Do we claim democracy is bad because we’ll always have detractors, and can’t go out and kill them like in authoritarian governments? Do we glorify despotic regimes because they can disappear their enemies, while condemning at the same time? If democracy is only viewed negatively because the ideas sound good on paper, but power corrupts, can the same be said for Communism, Socialism and Nationalism? If all goals sound good on paper, but never play our line by line, is any form of government good? If we posit that no government is good, we’re arguing an anarchic return to the old west, where we can willy nilly shoot our neighbors if we suspect them of anything without even evidence, and have hangings in town for everybody to see. Now I don’t think any of us want that, well some might, but some will always play devils advocate no matter what, simply due to the positive negative balance. All of us want a voice, and to be accurately and meaningfully represented in our government. Whether we advocate for Democracy or not, we can all agree it has made our lives better. However, bits of Socialism, Communism as well as others are so deeply imbedded in our system, that it has never been all one way or the other. So if we have elements of different systems, because no one by itself is better than any other, how do we decide which to implement? Once we realize it’s not about the specific form of government we have, but about how the people are treated, and whether they can live their lives truly, freely, fairly and with real opportunities not forced improvement, we’ll see the more we bring everything back to a human level by remembering we’re all basically the same, the less we’ll be disparaging others for believing the wrong thing, because we’ll be disparaging ourselves. We all deserve a voice, not be shouted down. Europe is currently and always has implemented purely American ideals, not vice versa. Once we concede everything has a good side and a bad side, we’ll do what we can to make the good side more influential. If capitalism in one side, and communism and socialism are on the other, is true democracy in the middle?”
