from the mind of critic-1/19/18

From the mind of critic: “Are all cliches bad, because the metaphor they once stood for has lost its meaning? Are some cliches good, because they enhance a metaphors evolution to include human’s constantly changing experience? Is a cliche considered good or bad, depending on perceptions, opinions and upbringing? Metaphors can’t be killed no matter how hard we try. We can say we’re going to kill all terrorists, but it would never happen because it’s an idea. An evil one no doubt, but still an idea. We can’t kill ideas, we can make them more or less significant, but we can’t totally delete them. We might be able to change some ideas, but we won’t be able to change them so much they’re erased from existence. Cliches are over used ideas, some good and some bad. We might not be able to erase bad ideas, but we can stop paying attention to them, it’s how we steal their power.” 🙂
