From the mind of critic: “If we’re scared to find out what has the potential to be great, terrible and/or everything in between, do we ignore the discovery so we can pretend that whatever happens, didn’t? Does ignoring the knowledge gain make us feel better, because if we don’t hear bad news, it can’t possibly hurt us? Does ignoring make us feel worse through self-sabotage, where being our own worst enemy, turns into spelling out why we don’t deserve any good news that may have come, but that we ignored? Do we take this fear that’s bubbling, and admit it’s there by fully defining and explaining why while moving forward anyway, because we know it’s always better to know something, even if it’s not what we want to hear? Can we move truthfully forward, because we know life will eventually improve, even if we’re only learning how to make the best of things, instead of creating a fictional narrative that’s likely to blow up in our face? Going to the doctor, talking with a lover or potential lover, getting called into the boss’s office or receiving a court summons can be scary, debilitating and like we simply want to cocoon. This is a normal reaction, but what we do after this reaction is vital. Do we ignore, or do we trudge forward? Sometimes it’s a little bit of both, depending on the person and the situation. Granted, ignorance is based on ignoring reality, so the less we pretend and the more we live, the better coping skills we gain so we don’t get caught off guard next time. Once we realize that none of us like bad news, but wont be able to deal if we don’t know what it is, we’ll see if we open our eyes, ears, minds, hearts and souls to authenticity, we’ll be able to not only surprise ourselves with what we can accomplish, but that bad news we were expecting, might actually be good news, which we never would have gotten if we hadn’t walked in the door. Band-aids hurt when they’re hastily ripped off, but not as much as if they’re left on to fuse with our skin. Fear is normal, ignorant fear isn’t. We won’t be able to travel our path forward, if ruts scare us enough to not try getting past them. The difference in our perceptions, will affect outcomes. Authentic strength to overcome, is born of gratitude.” ?
