from the mind of critic-11/4/17

From the mind of critic: “When spelling out the problems with institutional racism, antisemitism, racial incidents, persecution and all around degradation of “the other”, do vague descriptions of the issues instead of detailed accounts, help us get past self imposed roadblocks? Do we let the fear residue from past incidents, color our perspective? When several interactions with somebody from a different race, culture, religion or sexual oprientation turns out bad, violent or worse, do we then believe “they” are all like that? If racists are ignorant enough to believe a certain group is monolithic, does that group targeted by the racists then believe that whatever ethnic group the racists belong to, believes monolithically as well? If we know beating back ignorance involves humanization, how come we spew dehumanization to dispell the ignorance of racists? We all know this is a sticky issue, one we all know about, but might be scared to get involved in. Once we realize racism appears when humanism appears, we’ll see that vague descriptions and blanket statements is what feeds ignorance on all sides. The world is dark, but the world is also light. We get past generational difficulties, when we voice specifics, not platitudes.” 🙂
